15 August 2023
The South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) is pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. John Molepo as the Executive Director of the Association. This decision was made following an extensive evaluation process, where Dr. Molepo’s exceptional leadership skills, expertise in Public Affairs, and dedication to advancing the discipline were duly recognised.
SAAPAM encourages and promotes good governance practices in the administration of the state. SAAPAM have members across South Africa in academic and government circles. The association also publishes a prestigious Journal of Public Administration, which produces cutting-edge research findings with serious scholarly and policy implications.
Dr. Molepo joined SAAPAM in 2008. He is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Administration at the University of Mpumalanga. During his first tenure as the Executive Director of SAAPAM, he has played an important role in growing the membership of the association, including the participation of women in the programs and activities of the association. Dr. Molepo has led internal cashflow optimisation programs, which have placed the Association on a sound financial path. He brings a wealth of experience, skills and knowledge gained through years of service in various capacities within SAAPAM. As a highly respected professional in the field, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to upholding the highest standards of public administration and management practices in South Africa.
Under Dr. Molepo’s guidance during his previous term as Executive Director, SAAPAM witnessed remarkable growth and success. His strategic vision led to groundbreaking initiatives that fostered innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the public sector. During his time, SAAPAM also expanded its reach across national borders, establishing partnerships with international organisations for knowledge exchange on best practices in public affairs. Furthermore, seminars, research related workshops, and conferences were held, which immensely contributed to our flourishing stakeholder relations program. Molepo’s tutelage in the publication series of the Association has seen an increase in publication of academic books.
SAAPAM President, Professor Kgothatso Shai says: “Dr. Molepo was appointed Executive Director in his first tenure at a critical moment in our association’s evolution, as reflected in our 2018 annual report. He had big shoes to fill as he took reigns from a seasoned academic and administrator, the late Professor Titos Khalo. We are confident that he will lead and provide the much-needed strategic direction the Association needs for moving towards greater heights”.
“As we embark upon a new chapter under Dr. Molepo’s leadership, SAAPAM looks forward to further strengthening our position as a leading authority in Public Affairs. With his wealth of knowledge, strategic thinking, and ability to navigate through dynamic environments, he has proven to be an invaluable asset not only to the association but also to the entire Public Affairs community. This is because he inspires stakeholders at all levels. We are hopeful that our Association will continue making significant contributions towards enhancing good governance and public service delivery in South Africa.” Says Professor Shai
SAAPAM looks forward to building on its accomplishments under Dr. Molepo’s direction, including furthering the strategic relations he has engineered through memorandums of understanding with various research institutions and government departments, an expansion of the association’s influence on continental and international forums for engaged scholarship, and providing SAAPAM membership and provincial chapters with services that enable them to carry out the strategic objectives of the association. In particular, SAAPAM looks up to Dr. Molepo’s leadership to use the solid organisational platform as a basis for facilitating access to opportunities for young academics through the bursaries and internship program.
The National Board wishes Dr. Molepo well on his new term.
