SAAPAM to honour Prof Stan Sangweni and Dr Zola Skweyiya (posthumous) with life-time achievement awards.

SAAPAM TO HONOUR PROF STAN SANGWENI AND DR ZOLA SKWEYIYA (POSTHUMOUS) WITH LIFE-TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS.

The South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) will be honouring Professor Stanislaus Skumbuzo Mzilankatha Sangweni and Dr Zola Sideny Themba Skweyiya (Posthomous) with SAAPAM’s highest recognition, the Life-time Achievement Award. Prof Sangweni and Dr Skweyiya have had illustrious public service careers and were respectively the founding senior government officials and members of the national executive tasked for the establishment and functioning of the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA). They are among the few public servants to be bestowed with the highest award from this professional academic body.
SAAPAM promotes good governance practices in the administration of the state. SAAPAM also recognizes excellence in the field of public affairs particularly for individuals who demonstrated selflessness in their service to citizens. Prof Sangweni and Dr Skweyiya are amongst the outstanding individuals who are further credited for their role in shaping our public administration as we see it today.
Prof Sangweni was a founding Chairperson of Public Service Commission, a position he held from 1994 until 2009 when he retired while Dr Skweyiya served as a minister of Public Service and Administration in 1994, before he was moved to Department of Social Development in 1999. He served in the South African government for 15 years in both parliament and cabinet. The recipients’ values are also promoted by SAAPAM of which both were instrumental in its establishment.
The Lifetime Achievement awards ceremony for Prof Sangweni Dr Skweyiya will be held as follows:
Date: 06, Thursday September 2018
Time: 18:30 for 19:00
Place: Sheraton Hotel, Pretoria
Dr Zweli Mkhize is expected to give an address. Audience will comprise of ambassadors, ministers (current and former), former Senior government officials, Senior academics and Family and Friends of both recipients.
