The South African Association for Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) and the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA) have taken a significant step towards collaboration. The Executive Director of SAAPAM John Molepo recently met with the CEO of IRMSA Yvonne Mothibi at their offices in Sandton, facilitated by Bontle Lerumo the CEO of the Public Sector Education and Training Authority (PSETA). The meeting aimed to explore potential collaboration between the two organizations on training initiatives.
The potential collaboration could lead to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would see risk management integrated as a module in various public administration curricula. This partnership would enable SAAPAM and IRMSA to work together to develop and deliver training programs that equip public sector professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage risk.
IRMSA is a professional body that provides training, certification, and resources for risk management professionals. They offer a range of services, including risk management training and certification programs, professional development opportunities for risk managers, networking events and conferences, and resources and publications on risk management best practices.
The SAAPAM Executive Director John Molepo emphasized that “Collaborating with IRMSA is a vital step towards enhancing the professionalism of the public service, particularly in areas like risk management. By working together, SAAPAM aims to achieve academic excellence and promote good governance, ultimately benefiting the public sector. Lastly the incorporation of risk management will be great for the fraternity as we pursue the multi disciplinarity.”
The collaboration between SAAPAM and IRMSA has significant implications for the public sector. By integrating risk management into public administration curricula, the partnership could enhance the capacity of public sector professionals to manage risk effectively, promote a culture of risk awareness and management, support the development of more robust and resilient public sector institutions, and contribute to better governance and decision-making.
Ultimately, the collaboration between SAAPAM and IRMSA is a positive step towards strengthening the public sector’s ability to manage risk and achieve its objectives. By working together, the two organizations can help build a more skilled and informed public sector workforce, ultimately contributing to better service delivery and more effective governance.
