10 May 2019

The South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM), in collaboration with the University of Mpumalanga, will be hosting the 19th Annual Conference at Nelspruit in the Mpumalanga Province from 14-17 May 2019, under the theme “Public Affairs, Governance and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

The four-day conference will provide a platform for international and local academics, students and practitioners to share innovative ideas on public affairs, governance and the fourth industrial revolution as it serves as an important consideration for delegates in determining the positioning of public institutions’ readiness to absorb smart technology in their functioning on democracy and state capacity. It takes place at a time when public institutions and state owned enterprises are found wanting in their ability to deliver on their developmental mandates. The sum total of underperforming state institutions and state owned enterprises is a weakening state which will in the long run fail to deliver on the public good.

SAAPAM as a professional body has a responsibility to provide thought leadership regarding current Public Administration related issues, stimulate discourses and the building of a formidable body of knowledge for the discipline hence the choice of the theme.

Seasoned scholars like Professor Maserumule, Ntsikelelo Breakfast, Barry Hanyane and other scholars will be presenting their research papers in providing solutions to the impasse faced by the state. The conference has over 350 participants and more 200 papers to be presented. 8 countries will be represented at the conference. President and CEO of University of Dubai will deliver a Keynote Address.

SAAPAM is pleased to have more than 50 research papers from women in academics. The conference will also host a postgraduate seminar to assist students with research.
