SAAPAM welcomes the passing of important Bills
28 February 2024
The South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM) welcomes the passing of the Public Administration Management Amendment (PAMA) and Public Service Amendment (PSA) Bills by the National Assembly yesterday. This marks a significant milestone towards building state capacity. As a professional association, SAAPAM has always been calling for meaningful steps towards an efficient, non-partisan, career-oriented public service.
The amendments included in these bills are consistent with the framework for the professionalisation of the public sector, which emphasizes the importance of improving accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership. SAAPAM is confident that these legislative developments will contribute towards achieving a capable and developmental state as envisaged in the National Development Plan (NDP). After being considered by the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), these Bills will be forwarded to the President to sign them into law. The reforms that they introduce need to be effectively implemented and monitored to ensure their success.
We congratulate the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) and the National School of Government (NSG) for their efforts in facilitating the adoption of these important pieces of legislation. With these, the DPSA and NSG have demonstrated their commitment to driving positive change within the State.
ENDS.
